Squash is becoming an increasingly popular sport in many places around the world today.

In most places where it is also played at a very competitive level it is gaining ground. What was once a sport only the wealthy could afford, squash is now more accessible to people of all income levels.

Where is squash the most popular

With the growth of the sport and the accessibility for new squash players, new jobs are constantly being added, but there are 3 countries where the game of squash is flourishing the most:

  • The United States
  • Egypt
  • England

While the game is popular in many other countries as well, these are the top three players and produce some of the most popular and consistent champions in competition.

Squash in the United States

As the game of squash becomes more and more popular in the United States, they have added a number of new tournaments, including the biggest new tournament, the US Open Squash Doubles Tournament.

The United States also hosts the US Squash Open, one of the most important competitions in the world.

As competition grows, so does the need for more jobs and that is exactly what is happening in the US. New jobs are popping up across the country, encouraging new players to participate in the sport.

Another factor proving that squash is thriving in the US is that the age group of new players is getting younger, giving them more time to train properly and participate in competition.

Since many juniors are so interested in squash, it's no secret that colleges have had to adapt to its growing popularity as well. Many Ivy League schools now offer financial aid packages to elite squash players, just like they do in other sports like basketball and play football.

Squash is becoming more and more popular in Egypt

With some of the world's best players hailing from Egypt, it's no wonder the sport of squash is thriving in that country.

Younger players in awe of these champions are working harder than ever to reach an elite competitive level in squash and many are hoping for the scholarships available to colleges in the United States to advance the game there.

In the current World Rankings, players from Egypt have two prominent places:

  • Mohamed Eishorbagy is currently the best squash champion
  • while Amr Shabana holds the number four spot.

In a country that is not as big and access to squash is not as readily available as in the United States or England, this is a very big achievement for Egypt.

The country's successes are not limited to just the men. In the Women's Squash Association, Raneen El Weilily is ranked number two and Nour El Tayeb is currently fifth.

Egypt's fame in the sport will only increase as they continue to produce top squash players. It is definitely a country where the sport is thriving.

England – The Birthplace of Squash

It should come as no surprise that squash is still thriving in England. As the birthplace of the sport, squash is popular at both a competitive and recreational level.

At most colleges and preparatory schools, younger students are exposed to the sport at a young age, giving them more time to practice and acquire technique and skills.

According to the world ranking in the Professional Squash Association, an Englishman named Nick Matthew is currently number two.

In the Women's Squash Association, Alison Waters and Laura Massero hold the number three and four places, respectively.

In a nation where many have world titles and top positions, colleges provide easy access to the sport and it is played all over the country, the popularity of squash will only continue to grow.

More countries where squash is growing

Although the United States, Egypt and England are three of the most thriving countries for the sport of squash, the popularity of the game is not limited to these countries.

People all over the world play squash at both competitive and recreational levels.

France, Germany and Columbia are countries that also have top players in the world rankings.

The Women's Squash Association features top players from Malaysia, France, Hong Kong, Australia, Ireland and India.

Although these are the countries where the current top players come from, the game is played in 185 countries around the world.

It's no secret that the game of squash is thriving. There are more than 50.000 jobs to be found worldwide and many new ones are being built as the sport's popularity grows.

With this growth, it is possible that squash will one day be as common as baseball and tennis and played recreationally among families around the world.
