This is such a funny question because I used to ask it in school and on the camping played a lot, but still a lot of people want to know.

Table tennis around the table rules

Let's say there are 9 people. We will split these people into 2 teams on either side of the table: Team A and Team B. Let's assume Team A is 4 people and Team B is 5 people.

The team with the most people serves first. Team A members: 1,2,3,4. Team B members: 1,2,3,4 and 5. so 5 will have the first trick and 4 will strike back.

The moment one of the players strikes, he has to run to the other team (counterclockwise) to wait for his turn.

If a player fails to catch the ball in time or returns it incorrectly, he is out and must wait on the side until the rest of the players are ready.

Around the table with three players

When there are only 3 players left, one player stays in the middle, between team A and team B (at this point it gets extremely fun and fast).

All 3 are in constant motion, running counterclockwise around the table.

Every time one of them reaches the end of the table, the ball should get there at about the same time, and they can hit the ball back and run again.

Play continues until one of them does not return the ball correctly or does not reach the ball in time for their turn.

Around the table with only two players left

When only two are left, they play a normal game against each other without running around and the first person wins by two points, just like normal table tennis.

I just wouldn't go for this 11 points as in the normal rules of table tennis, because that takes way too long, but just go for the first with two points ahead.

For example:

  • 2-0
  • 3-1 (if it went 1-1- first)
  • 4-2 (if it went 2-2) first

Scoring at around the table

It's also nice to keep score so that you have a total winner at the end of a number of games.

When a round is completed, the winner gets two points, the runner-up gets one point and the rest get no points.

Then everyone returns to the table, one position ahead of how it started with the previous game, so now the next player gets to serve first.

The first to 21 points is the winner (or for how long you want to play).

This is a tiring game, but a lot of fun.

You can imagine that all kinds of strategies can be tried. Sometimes two would team up to make sure the third would lose.

It's just a matter of speed and ball placement. But the game is so unpredictable that alliances are quickly terminated.
