Studies clearly show that OBO sticks are the most trusted by field hockey goalkeepers around the world.

TK coming in second is also not surprising as they have worked hard to develop a high end goalie stick in recent years and succeeded on all fronts.

Best hockey goalkeeper stick

Brabo is very popular with European goalkeepers and is also a very trusted brand. Surprising result here was that Grays took 4th place, while the goalies do have an all-encompassing goal, but they stick to the cheaper side and don't always pick the power and balance of the OBO or TK sticks.

The most commonly used goalie sticks are:

  1. OBO
  2. TK
  3. Brabo (in Europe)
  4. Grays

OBO Fatboy Field Hockey Goalie Stick

This is one of the most expensive goalkeeper sticks out there, which isn't too surprising for an OBO. This brand has been around for a while and only does top quality hockey goalie equipment.

This stick is a slightly heavier goalkeeper stick designed for a more powerful hit but extremely well balanced so it can still be moved quickly.

The head has been re-curved and the lower shaft has been shaped to deliver a larger stopping area. The Fatboy has an extended length grip and an oval shaped shaft that provides a comfortable and natural grip.

The Toe for this stick is a Hook, most commonly used toe for a goalkeeper stick and is a full composite construction.

The OBO Fatboy is available here at hockeygear.eu

Brabo Goalie Traditional Carbon 80

This goalie stick is a well-priced stick that will serve any player well. It has an excellent shape for hitting and sweeping the ball out of the D, unlike many field hockey goalie sticks.

The Brabo Goalie has a 22 mm curvature that gives great ball control. It is a lightweight stick, as any good holder should have a bit of flex due to the 100% carbon construction.

The stick also has the standard goalie hook toe. All in all, a great entry-level goalkeeper for field hockey.

Specifications

  • Composition: 100% carbon
  • Adhesive weight: 530 g for a 35″ stick
  • Curvature: 22 mm

The Brabo Goalie is available here at bol.com

Grays GX 6000 Goalie Composite Field Hockey Stick

When you get to the higher end of the goal area, this Grays model is sure to hockey you with the saves you want. The stick is very durable and comes with a special curved blade plus extended hook to create extra space for the ball.

OBO Straight as goalie stick

One of OBO's proven models, the Straight shaft is a great weapon for any elite or advanced goalkeeper.

A thin light design that allows a holder to quickly move the stick to make a save. Gaining more power as you hit to clear the ball increases with the higher carbon content of this stick, making it stiffer than the Fatboy.

It is available here at hockeygear.eu

Brabo Goalie TC 7.24

One of the cheapest goalkeeper sticks from Brabo. The interesting thing about this stick is that it is wood. While virtually all sticks today are composite, the feel of a wooden shaft stick is still preferred by some players.

The stick also has an extra long hook to increase the area you have to stop the ball, very useful for grass games. This is also a very stiff stick.

Composition: wooden construction with fiberglass cover

TK SGX Dominate Goalkeeper Stick

This is an excellent stick from TK, features a special kinked shaft to provide more storage space. Also features a thinner stick profile and offset head hook.

Gryphon Sentinel Hockey Goalkeeper stick

A quality stick from Gryphon as you would expect, head and shaft designed to give the maximum surface area for ball contact. Gryphon Sentinel Field Hockey Goalie Still maintain a nice weight balance.

The Sentinel helps keepers who want a little more flex in their stick, but is still stiff enough to give the power for a clearance hit.

  • Arch: 23mm
  • Head: Tapered Hook
  • Curve position: 330 mm
