My favorite fitness treadmills for home

I put the different treadmills side by side and picked out the best four.

An example of such a fantastic treadmill, and as far as I'm concerned the overall dear, is the Focus Fitness Jet 5.

In addition to being a strong treadmill at an average price, it has a reasonably high load capacity and you can run quickly on it. The treadmill also makes almost no noise and is easy to use.

I'll tell you more about this and the other three treadmills in a moment.

What should you look for when buying a treadmill for your home?

There are quite a few things that you should take into account when buying the ideal treadmill. I will explain below what you should pay attention to.

Surface treadmill

It is important to consider how large you want the running surface of your tire.

It goes without saying: the larger the surface, the more comfortable you move on the tire.

You will have to pay less attention to walking straight on the belt, so that you can fully focus on your performance.

To follow a guideline, you should have a treadmill that is at least as long as you are.

In terms of width, you should be about 1,5x your width (measured with your feet shoulder-width apart).

What is your budget?

This is probably one of the first things to consider when buying a home treadmill. Is 400 euros already a lot for you, or are you willing to spend more?

Of course, this amount can also depend on what you get in return, but in general it is wise to keep a maximum for yourself. That makes choosing a bit easier.

Features

You buy a treadmill in the first instance, of course, to be able to walk or run. But such a treadmill can often offer even more options that might be of interest to you.

For example, consider a heart rate measurement, fat measurement and a calorie measurement.

Perhaps connectivity (such as a connection to a smartphone) and a built-in speaker system are things that play an important role for you in making a choice.

Size and Collapsibility

Not everyone has room for a large treadmill at home. However, they are often devices that take up quite a bit of space.

Do you have little space at home? Then it might be wise to take a treadmill that is collapsible.

This way you don't have to constantly stare at the treadmill when you're not using it, and you can hide or store it neatly when you have guests or when you don't need it for a while.

There are also treadmills with transport wheels, such as the Jet 2, the Jet 5 and the Dreaver in my list, so that you can move them quickly and easily.

Avid athletes take a large treadmill for granted, because it is important to them and they want to train daily.

Maximum speed

Also not unimportant: what is the maximum speed that your treadmill should have?

It depends (once again) on your goal and abilities. If you want to be able to sprint fast, you have to take one that can do a lot of kilometers per hour.

If you were going for a run outside, you are free to sprint whenever you want or adjust your speed at any time. With a treadmill, you depend on the power of the motor for this.

The higher the power, the faster the tire can spin. So think carefully about how fast you want to go on the treadmill before you choose one.

Maximum load

How heavy are you? Adjust your choice here! It is important here to take it broadly.

By that I mean: the more leeway there is between your weight and the maximum user weight of the treadmill, the better it can withstand use and the longer it will of course last.

Some treadmills will lose weight instantly because they can't support your weight. However, this is usually only the case if you weigh more than 100 kg.

If your weight is just on the edge, then it is smart to choose a treadmill category that can handle just that little bit more.

Incline Levels

An increased incline can make a workout harder and more challenging. You can simulate a training in the mountains with it. It will also make your leg muscles a lot stronger and burn more calories.

If this is interesting for you, look for a treadmill that has a minimum incline of 10%. This may seem like a small difference, but if you're running for half an hour, you will definitely feel that 'small difference'!

Treadmill Weight

Is this really that important? You can determine from the weight of a treadmill whether it is made of heavy, high-quality materials or of light, less good materials.

Often, the heavier the device, the more it can withstand use and the longer it will last.

Usability

Everyone, young and old, should have the opportunity to exercise indoors on a treadmill with ease. The treadmill must therefore be user-friendly!

Can you start running quickly, without having to keep looking for the buttons? Is there a protection that can stop the belt from spinning if needed? Are the different programs easy to set up? How clear and comprehensive is the display?

Treadmill Power

It is best to take the power generously. Look at both continuous power and peak power.

If you want to run at a high speed for a long time, you must have a high continuous power. If you only want to make a short sprint, you can use the peak power for that.

It is recommended to use a maximum of 80% of the power for the longest possible life of the treadmill.

To give you an example: if the treadmill has a motor with, for example, 1,5 hp continuous power and it can go 15 km/h with it, ideally keep a maximum speed of 12 km/h.

In this way you do not use the full power of the motor and the device will last longer.

So know how fast you run and adjust your choice accordingly!

But don't forget to take it easy again, so that you have enough slack and growth potential. Did you know that the higher the power, the less noise the tire makes?!

Programs

Do you think it is important to have preset programs?

If you like to use these programs, I think it would be useful if you have at least 12 different programs. Variety is of course more than welcome.

Review best fitness treadmills for home

Then, with all that in mind, let's take a look at my favorite treadmills. What makes these tires so good in their category?

Overall Best Treadmill: Focus Fitness Jet 5

Overall Best Treadmill- Treadmill Focus Fitness Jet 5

(view more images)

The Focus Fitness Jet 5 is the overall best treadmill in my opinion for several reasons.

It's the perfect mid-range treadmill; more robust than an entry-level model, with a reasonably high load capacity (120 kg) and an excellent maximum speed of 16 km/h, which will ensure that you can add tempo changes to your workout and sprint!

Satisfied buyers indicate that the treadmill is stable, makes little noise and is easy to use. The Jet 5 is also easy to assemble and store.

The treadmill has an LCD display for reading relevant measurements. It has heart rate sensors in the handles and it is even possible to do a fat measurement before your training.

It is a perfect device for people who have less space at home. Because the treadmill is collapsible and has wheels, you can put it away in no time.

This video shows how it all works, from unfolding, switching on and storing:

The treadmill is equipped with up to 36 preset programs. Choose from an incline, interval or combi program and train yourself in shape!

In addition, you can also manually set a training program to your liking.

Overall Best Treadmill- Treadmill Focus Fitness Jet 5 Close Up

(view more images)

The adjustable speed ranges from 1 to 16 km/h, so you can sprint on it. The maximum usable capacity is 120 kg and the treadmill has a size of (lxwxh) 169 x 76 x 133 cm.

The dimensions of the tire itself are 130 x 45 cm. You will experience real walking comfort thanks to the eight-way flex suspension suspension that absorbs the blows.

The weight of the treadmill is 66 kg, which is quite heavy on average. The maximum incline is 12% (from 0 to 12 levels) and there are 12 training levels. Finally, the Jet 5 has a 2 horsepower engine.

The Jet 5 is a new and special model, which has been considerably improved compared to the previous model (the Jet 2, see below): a reinforced frame, a longer and wider tread, and moreover, this model is more user-friendly.

There is also a difference in price between the Jet 5 and the Jet 2.

In addition to these two, Focus Fitness has launched four other models, namely the Jet 7, Jet 7 iPlus, the Jet 9 and the Jet 9 iPlus.

The functions are at an increasingly higher level with each updated version and, of course, the prices also rise.

Treadmill best price/quality: Focus Fitness Jet 2

Treadmill Best Price: Quality- Treadmill Focus Fitness Jet 2

(view more images)

The Focus Fitness Jet 2 is a favorite of many because it offers great value for money.

Choose one of many programs, including a reduced-speed cardio workout for burning fat.

Or do you prefer an interval training that revolves around a high heart rate and short rest moments, to strengthen your muscles and improve your condition?

The Jet 2 is a compact treadmill with seven pre-programmed workouts. Thanks to these programs you are able to achieve your own personal goals.

It has a heart rate function and a maximum load of 100 kg. Compared to the Jet 5 (120 kg), this is slightly less.

Furthermore, it has a quiet 1,5 hp motor that allows speeds from 1 to 13 km/h. The noise level is also very low at high speeds.

Compared to the Jet 5 (16 km/h), you can go a little less fast on this treadmill. The Jet 2 is therefore less suitable for the professional runners among us.

What the Jet 2 and the Jet 5 have in common is the eightfold damping that, in addition to protecting your joints, also ensures even less noise pollution. So perfect for home use.

The treadmill is manually adjustable in two different heights so that you can also simulate a mountain workout.

Also not unimportant: the treadmill, just like the Jet 5, can easily be folded up after use!

Furthermore, the Jet 2 has a clear display on which you can easily read your data, such as time, distance, speed, amount of calories burned and heart rate.

The treadmill has a size of 162 x 70 x 125 cm and the size of the running surface is 123 cm x 42 cm. A bit smaller than the Jet 5.

Treadmill best price:quality- Treadmill Focus Fitness Jet 2 closeup

(view more images)

Finally, this treadmill has a weight of 55 kg, which makes it slightly lighter than its brother. The treadmill is easy to operate and assemble.

In terms of dimensions, the Jet 2 does not have the widest surface, but it is spacious enough to train well. For most it's more than enough, but for the more avid runners a wider surface might be more comfortable.

The Jet 2 is suitable for anyone who wants to be able to run at home several times a week. It is a solid and compact tire and takes up little space.

It is better not to choose the tire if you are heavy (around 100 kg or more), if you want to be able to run very fast (more than 13 km/h) and if you are going to use the tire intensively.

If you want more options, the Jet 5 is probably a better choice, or else the VirtuFit (see below). However, if you compare the price with what you get in return, you can be very satisfied with the Jet 2!

Best Budget Treadmill: Dreaver

Best Budget Treadmill For Beginners- Dreaver With Background

(view more images)

Not all treadmills that are expensive, always offer a better quality than the cheaper ones. The more expensive treadmills are often equipped with special functions, which means that they cost more than the simpler models.

A cheap treadmill does not always mean that you buy one of lower quality.

A cheap treadmill will 'only' offer fewer options and perhaps also less good shock absorption. In addition, the more expensive treadmills often have an electric belt drive, whereas the cheaper models move on the steps of the runner.

So it all depends on what you want to do with a treadmill. Are you planning to do intense workouts and try programs?

Then you should go for a more advanced option. If you only want to build up a little fitness, then a simple model, such as the Dreaver treadmill, will suffice.

Thanks to the clear LED display of the Dreaver treadmill, you can easily read the time, distance, speed and the calories you have connected.

This treadmill is also ideal for people who do not have much space at home. The treadmill is foldable and has two handy wheels, just like the Jet 2 and Jet 5, so that you can easily roll it to another room.

Unlike previous treadmills, the Dreaver only has three preset programs, while the Jet 2 has seven and the Jet 5 has 36. You can manually set a workout program to your liking.

The speed you can achieve on the treadmill ranges from 1 to 10 km/h; a lot lower than the Jet 5 (16 km/h) and also somewhat lower than the Jet 2 (13 km/h).

The treadmill is made of sturdy materials. The maximum usable capacity is 120 kg, equal to the Jet 5 and higher than the Jet 2 (100 kg).

Cleaning is only done with a damp cloth and it is recommended to place the machine in a dry and dust-free place.

The treadmill has a size of (lxwxh) 120 x 56 x 110 cm; a lot smaller than both Jet treadmills. Dimensions of the tread are 110 x 56 cm with a motor power of 750 Watt.

The weight of the treadmill is 24 kg and is therefore a lot lighter than the Jet 2 and 5. However, the maximum incline is low, namely 4%.

As you can see, this treadmill has fewer options, but it is nevertheless a great treadmill for people who like to exercise on the treadmill at home now and then.

Best Professional Treadmill: VirtuFit TR-200i

Best Professional Treadmill- VirtuFit TR-200i

(view more images)

When choosing a professional treadmill, the top speed (must be high), the power of the motor (which must be between 1,5 and 3 hp) and the size of the running surface (140/150 cm x 50 cm) important.

In addition, professional treadmills are made of stronger material compared to non-professional treadmills and are also heavier and more stable. They are designed for intense workouts.

Are you a professional runner? In such a case, the VirtuFit Tr-200i is a perfect option. It should be noted, however, that the treadmill will not be a bargain.

The treadmill weighs 88 kg, it is the heaviest on the list, but it is very stable and made from the best materials.

The tire also has a strong, silent motor with a continuous output of 2,5 hp. The device is therefore able to reach a speed of 18 km/h, and can withstand a load of 140 kg, even at the maximum incline of 12%!

It has 18 training levels and the dimensions are 198 x 78 x 135 and the tread is 141 x 50 cm. So you have enough space to run as fast as you want without running the risk of stepping next to the treadmill.

Thanks to the quadruple cushioning, you run much less risk of injuries. The treadmill is also equipped with safety systems that ensure that you can use the treadmill without any problems.

Installation is also a piece of cake. Furthermore, the illuminated display provides insight into data such as time, distance, speed, calorie consumption, heart rate and incline.

Here VirtuFit introduces their showpiece:

Like the Jet 5, the VirtuFit has 36 different pre-programmed programs to choose from. You can even connect your phone or tablet to your treadmill via Bluetooth.

The treadmill is equipped with an AUX connection so that you can listen to your favorite tracks while exercising.

Have you completed your workout? Then fold up the treadmill and put it aside in no time thanks to the transport wheels.

The only drawback is that the treadmill is very heavy (88 kg), so keep that in mind.

We can conclude that the VirtuFit treadmill is in all respects a lot more advanced than the treadmills discussed above, and therefore really something for the serious or professional runner!

Someone who runs as a hobby or who doesn't necessarily have to do it on a daily basis would probably be better off with a cheaper or simpler model like the Jet 2 or the Dreaver.

The Jet 5 is better than the budget models but doesn't have everything the VirtuFit has.

In addition to the VirtuFit, there is another interesting treadmill for the professional runner, namely the Focus Fitness Senator iPlus.

The running surface has a size of 147 x 57 cm, the treadmill has a maximum speed of 22 km/h and a 3 hp motor.

You can find more about this treadmill in the 'Best treadmill for seniors' category below.

Best Non-Electric Treadmill: Gymost Freelander

Best Non Electric Treadmill- Treadmill Gymost Freelander

(view more images)

Why should you choose a treadmill without a motor? A non-electric treadmill can have several advantages.

With such a treadmill, your movements are responsible for the drive of the belt and you will experience it as a natural walking movement. The feeling is therefore close to running on the street.

Other advantages are of course: no power consumption - which saves you money - and that you can place the tire wherever you want. You don't need a socket!

Furthermore, a manual treadmill is more durable, requires less maintenance, and often (but not always!!) cheaper to purchase than an electric treadmill.

However, a non-electric treadmill often has fewer functionalities (such as no screen, programs, speakers, etc), since it naturally requires power.

A good example of a non-electric treadmill is the Gymost Freelander.

This treadmill can bear a weight of 150 kg and provides a stable training experience. The treadmill is perfect for home exercisers and professional exercisers.

It has a specially designed ergonomic design and you determine your own speed. The faster you run, the faster the treadmill will move.

Thanks to the six different resistance levels, you can keep challenging yourself.

Here you can see exactly how walking on the Freelander works:

The running surface has a slight curvature and is 48 cm wide. You will experience a smooth and natural gait.

You can keep track of your speed using the display. If you want to move the belt, you can do so thanks to the wheels at the front and the bracket at the back.

The treadmill is extremely suitable for HIIT training, where you take your performance to a higher level via short training sessions.

It promotes fat burning and improves your endurance. The dimensions of this treadmill are 187 x 93,4 x 166 cm.

The size of the tread is 160 x 48 cm. The disadvantage is that you cannot set an angle of inclination and that there is also no heart rate function.

Best Collapsible Compact Treadmill for Under the Desk: Compact Space

Best Folding Compact Treadmill For Under Desk- Compact Space Treadmill Plus Folded Version

(view more images)

Are you also so busy working from home and that is why moving often falls short?

As the name suggests, this Compact Space treadmill has a compact design and fits under any desk! Take a break from your hard work and sweat out the tension on the treadmill!

Thanks to the clear display you can keep track of your distance traveled, how long you've been walking, the number of calories burned, the speed, and the number of steps walked.

The speed varies between 0,5 and 6 km/h and you can adjust it to your own pace and level. You can easily fold the band back together after training.

In addition, the strap has a flat design with a height of only 16 cm. It weighs only 22 kg, which makes the tire very easy to transport.

The two transport wheels at the front are therefore useful.

You can operate the device with a remote control and you also have the option to better shape your training with the Kinomap app. Optionally available is the tablet holder made of bamboo.

Unfortunately, this treadmill can't go very fast, the maximum speed is only 6 km/h, and is probably best suited for people who don't have very ambitious plans with it.

It's a great treadmill for the home athlete who likes to stay active every now and then.

Best Treadmill for the Elderly: Focus Fitness Senator iPlus

Best Treadmill For Seniors- Treadmill Focus Fitness Senator iPlus

(view more images)

A suitable treadmill for the elderly must meet a number of important characteristics.

First of all, there must be armrests on it, because older people simply have less balance than they may have had in the past.

In addition, a low minimum speed is important. They will mainly use a treadmill for walking, but perhaps also for running at a slower pace.

In addition, an easy-to-use training computer is a must and good suspension while walking is also not an unnecessary luxury.

Actually, this applies to every treadmill, but especially to a treadmill for the elderly. The better the suspension, the less stress is placed on the joints.

A treadmill that requires little maintenance is of course also very welcome.

The Focus Fitness Senator iPlus is a robust treadmill that can bear a load of up to 160 kg. This makes the treadmill suitable not only for the elderly, but also for people who are overweight.

The treadmill is equipped with Bluetooth, so that a tablet or smartphone can be connected via the EHealth app. This app takes over the function of the training computer.

You can now choose even more diverse training programs via the app. There are 25 pre-programmed training programs (incline programs, speed programs and heart rate programs).

The treadmill also has a large incline, which ranges from 0 to 15 levels. You can even train by heart rate by means of the hand sensors on the handles of the treadmill that give you an indication of your heart rate.

You can also connect a chest strap wirelessly for a precise heart rate measurement. However, you have to purchase this yourself and it is not included.

Find the best sports watches with heart rate monitor (on the arm or on the wrist) reviewed here!

The treadmill has an easy-to-use display on which you can read your speed, calorie consumption, distance, time, heart rate and graph programs.

Here you quickly get an idea of how this beautiful device works:

The treadmill has a strong 3 hp motor that allows a minimum speed of 1 km/h to a maximum speed of 22 km/h.

The tread has an eight-way flex suspension suspension that provides extra comfort during training. In addition, the tire has an extra long and wide tread with a size of 147 x 57 cm.

As extras it has an Mp3 connection, two integrated speakers and a ventilation system to cool both the treadmill and the user.

The treadmill is also very suitable for runners who like to train intensively and at high speed, since a speed of 22 km/h can be reached with the treadmill.

Other treadmills that might also be suitable for the elderly are the Jet 2 and Jet 5, which I explained earlier.

These models also have armrests, a low minimum speed and good damping and suspension to protect the muscles and joints.

Q&A fitness treadmill for home

What is a fitness treadmill?

Do we have to explain that in 2021?! Well go ahead then..

A fitness treadmill is a cardio machine. The machine's motor keeps the belt spinning, allowing you to keep running in one spot.

You can set the speed and steepness of the slope yourself, so that you can continuously challenge yourself. You don't necessarily have to run, you can of course just walk.

Since you can do it from home, you can even put on your favorite series while burning calories. Two birds with one stone!

Why run?

Running is good for your heart and blood vessels; it improves your circulation and strengthens your heart.

Your metabolism will fire, causing you to burn calories faster. Your fitness will improve and your muscles will become stronger.

Besides that running is good for your body, it also does a lot for your mind; your stress level will drop and your psychological complaints will decrease.

By running, you train for a healthy and strong body, and a positive mindset.

Also great for a cardio workout: the fitness step. Here I have the best steps for home training selected for you.

Which muscles do you train on a treadmill?

When you train on a treadmill, you mainly use your leg and glutes. When you set an incline, you also use your abs and back muscles.

Can you lose weight from exercising on a treadmill?

Training on a treadmill is ideal for losing weight. Interval training is especially a good idea.

Most treadmills have several workout programs that can help you lose weight.

How many calories do you burn on a treadmill?

That depends on several factors, such as speed, incline, your height, weight and training time.

An example: a man weighing 80 kilos burns about 10 calories per hour by running at a speed of 834 km/h.

When is the best time to train on the treadmill?

Your body temperature is highest between 14.00 p.m. and 18.00 p.m. If you train between these times, your body will be most ready, making this possibly the most effective time of day to train.

How many minutes a day should you run on a treadmill?

Once you get used to walking on the treadmill, you can do it every day of the week.

It is recommended that you walk at a brisk pace for 30 to 60 minutes, or a total of 150 to 300 minutes per week, most days of the week to reduce health risks.
